Frequently Asked Questions
What is Is Your Box Square?
A balanced-life self-assessment built on a simple idea: a box is only square when its four sides are equal — and so is a life. It measures your four sides — Body, Mind, Soul, and Social — and draws your box to scale so you can see, at a glance, whether your life is square or running out of true. It sits in the same family as tools like Myers-Briggs, DISC, and the 5 Love Languages, but it measures balance — how evenly your life is built — rather than personality type.
What do the four sides mean?
Each side is measured by three facets:
- 🫀 Body — Movement & Fitness, Fuel & Nutrition, Rest & Recovery.
- 🧠 Mind — Learning & Growth, Focus & Clarity, Emotional Regulation.
- ✨ Soul — Meaning & Purpose, Values & Integrity, Inner Peace & Self-Reflection.
- 🤝 Social — Close Relationships, Community & Contribution, Communication & Boundaries.
What are Squareness and Box Size?
Your report leads with two numbers. Squareness is your balance: 100 means all four sides are equal — a perfect square. Box Size is your overall development: how much you've built across all four sides combined. The two together tell the real story — you can be big but skewed (developed but unbalanced) or small but square (balanced but with room to build). Your report names which, and points at the wall to work on first.
How long does it take?
You choose the depth: the Quick Check (36 questions, about 6 minutes), the Standard (90 questions, about 15 minutes — adds your motivation drivers), or the Full Assessment (150 questions, about 24 minutes — full detail on all twelve facets, every question in the instrument). Your progress saves in your browser automatically, so you can pause and resume anytime.
Is it free?
Yes — the assessment and your results report are free. The Full Assessment is free while the study is open: we're collecting a calibration sample of fifty completed responses, and when we have them it becomes a paid product. The study page shows a live count of how many places are left.
What's the free ebook?
Is Your Box Square? The Short Version — the framework distilled: the four sides and the twelve facets, the two numbers your report leads with, what a short side actually costs you, and how to raise the shortest one. It's written from the same research as the full book, and it's free.
You get it whether or not you take the assessment. Finish the Full Assessment and it's yours, or just leave your email and it's yours. No card, no trial, no upsell wall.
The full book Is Your Box Square? is a separate, longer thing and is still being written. We're not naming a date for it, because a date invented to create urgency is a date we'd miss.
Why do you ask for my name and email?
Your results are delivered through your email, so we confirm it works first: enter your name and email and we send you a personal assessment link — opening it confirms your address and unlocks the questions. If you check the consent box you'll also get the free 5-day Square-Up mini-course after your results, plus occasional balance tips and updates about the book Is Your Box Square? We never sell or share your email, and every one of those emails has a one-click unsubscribe. Details in our privacy policy.
What happens after I get my results?
If you opted in, your report kicks off the free 5-day Square-Up mini-course by email, tuned to your shortest side: Day 1 teaches you how to read your box, Days 2–4 are the three core lessons for that side (why the wall matters, the one footing habit that raises it, and what knocks it down), and Day 5 maps your next 90 days. After that you'll hear from us occasionally through The Level, our short newsletter on keeping the four sides the same height — unsubscribe anytime with one click.
Is there a quick explanation I can watch?
Yes — The Box, Explained covers the whole idea in 90 seconds: the four sides, why a box is only square when they're equal, the two numbers on your report, and why the smallest side decides how life feels.
Can I retake it, or go deeper after a Quick Check?
Yes. Your answers carry over between depths — if you take the Quick Check and then choose Standard or Full, you only answer the new questions. You can also start over fresh anytime from the results page.
Is this scientifically validated?
No — not yet, and we would rather say so plainly than imply otherwise. It is a proprietary instrument, designed with the usual survey-design care: multiple questions per facet, reverse-scored items to catch "agree with everything" answering, and two separate headline scores so balance and development don't get blurred together. Those are sound design choices. They are not evidence.
The scoring bands are based on engineering design and will be updated as data arrives. The cutoffs that decide whether a side reads Solid or Serviceable were chosen by us, not derived from a sample of real respondents — because that sample does not exist yet. We are collecting it now — and being straight about what it buys. Fifty people is not enough to set score bands. Norms are built on samples in the hundreds to thousands, and anyone who tells you fifty will do it is selling a scale. What fifty does buy is a thorough inspection of the instrument itself, and the first look anyone has had at how far apart a person's four sides typically fall. We will publish that, and the bands stay labelled as designed until a much larger sample exists.
Until then: the part you can trust is your four sides relative to each other, which is what your shortest side and your whole plan are built from. The part to hold loosely is any single number's label, especially near a boundary. It is a self-reflection tool, not a clinical or diagnostic instrument. Read it as a mirror, not a measurement.
Is my data private?
Yes. We store your name, email, consent choice, and — once you complete the assessment — your responses and scores, kept securely so your results and mini-course can be personalized (and so a future re-measure can compare against your earlier box). Never sold, never shared, no ad trackers anywhere on the site. See the full privacy policy, including how to have everything deleted with one email.
What's the Square-Up Curriculum?
The guided course built on the assessment: 12 modules — one per facet of the four sides — sequenced by your scores, starting at the weakest facet of your shortest side. It's in final construction; see the curriculum preview. Assessment takers hear first when doors open.
What's the book?
Is Your Box Square? is the upcoming companion book — Body, Mind, Soul, Social: maintaining balance in a hectic world. Where the assessment shows you where your box is out of true, the book is the how: a deeper diagnostic for each side, the 30-day square-up plan, and how to keep all four walls standing. Take the assessment with the consent box checked and you'll be the first to know when it's out.
